Being a lifelong Razorbacks fan fills me with pride and excitement. The 2024 signing class announcement has all of us Hog fans buzzing. Head Coach Dave Van Horn and his team have crafted a first-class group of promising Arkansas high school and junior college players.1

This year, they proudly presented a group of 19 recruits. Perfect Game rated them 18th nationally. It shows the hard work of Van Horn, Nate Thompson, Matt Hobbs, and Bobby Wernes. The team includes 10 pitchers and 9 position players, from many places.1

I’m specially thrilled for our local talent joining the Razorbacks. Seven signees are from Arkansas. This shines a light on our thriving Arkansas youth baseball scene. Adding these top Arkansas baseball prospects makes the Razorbacks’ future shine.

Lance Davis: Pitching Prodigy from Valley View

Lance Davis is a top prospect playing for Valley View High in Jonesboro, Ark. He stands as the No. 2 prospect in Arkansas and the top right-handed pitcher according to Perfect Game. Davis fires fastballs in the 91-93 mph range, thanks to his 6-foot-4, 205-pound build.2 Recently, he moved to Valley View, where the Blazers are hunting for a fourth state title game. Prep Baseball Report puts him as the 433rd overall prospect and 143rd right-handed pitcher in the 2024 class. Busby is also known for playing football. Unfortunately, an elbow surgery made him miss most of the 2023 spring season. Yet, when he’s in good health, he’s a near-perfect pitcher.

Steele Eaves: Lonoke’s Workhorse Ace

Steele Eaves shines as a right-handed pitcher for Lonoke High School in Lonoke, Ark. He’s carried the Jackrabbits on his back for two seasons. In 2023, he set a state record with 134 strikeouts in just 76 innings, with a perfect 13-0 record. His efforts led Lonoke to the 4A state championship.4 According to Prep Baseball Report, he’s the fourth best prospect and the top catcher in Arkansas. Eaves has already decided to continue his playing career with the Razorbacks at the University of Arkansas, thanks to an academic scholarship.
